New Blue Jayden Foster has aptly described his first day at Visy Park as "pretty surreal".

The 19-year-old, who was selected by Carlton at pick 63 in last week’s NAB AFL National Draft, says he still finds it hard to believe that he's going to be playing for the Blues.

"I actually trained here last week with the VFL not knowing what was going on in the draft,” Foster said.

"So to be here finally is an awesome feeling – it hasn't sunk in."

Whilst Carlton had shown interest in the key forward, Foster says he wasn't sure what the outcome of the draft would be.

"I didn't expect much at all," Foster said.

"I was just at a mate’s house – it was awesome when I found out."

The 196cm weapon caught the eye of Carlton recruiters after an impressive year with the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup.

The son of former Western Bulldog Peter Foster shone in the forward line, kicking 49 goals in 16 matches.

Foster hopes that this, along with hard work between now and and next year, will place him in good stead for selection come Round 1.

"I'm aiming for Round 1,” Foster said.

"Some people may see that as unrealistic, but Round 1 straight away.

"I'm looking forward to it and putting more size on in the gym and working hard on the track."
