New Carlton assistant coach Tim Clarke says he’s looking forward to working with John Barker to develop the Blues’ midfield.

The 33-year-old has been appointed Carlton’s new midfield coach, while Barker will take on the new role of stoppages coach.

Clarke arrives at Ikon Park with plenty of experience, having spent six seasons coaching at Richmond, most recently as the Tigers VFL coach.

He says it’s the challenge of rebuilding the Blues that attracted him to the club.

“I’m really excited to work with such a dynamic young midfield group,” Clarke said.

“It’s all about moving forward and development with the younger Carlton players.

“I had the benefit of coaching some really young talented players in my last three to four years at Richmond and I’m really excited about what Carlton’s got to offer there.”

As well as proven coaching ability, Clarke has also played the game at the highest level.

He spent eight seasons at Hawthorn from 2001-08, playing 96 games and kicking 39 goals. In a testament to his character, Clarke won the 'Most Improved' and 'Most Determined' awards for the Hawks in 2004 and ‘05 respectively.
