Carlton young gun Blaine Johnson has been rewarded for his standout form for the Northern Blues this season.

The 19-year-old has been upgraded from Carlton's rookie list following his six-goal haul in last weekend's win over Frankston.

Johnson was recruited to Carlton with pick 43 in the 2013 rookie draft.

The medium-sized forward from Western Australia played five senior games for Carlton last season, and has been consistent in the VFL this year, being named in the Northern Blues best on five of his eight outings.

Northern Blues coach Luke Webster says the elevation is well deserved.

"Blaine has been terrific for us all season and has provided some really good pressure in our forward line," Webster said.

"He's a hard worker who has a very disciplined training ethic, so this is a well-earned reward for all his hard work."

Johnson is being upgraded in place of ruckman Rob Warnock, who was placed on Carlton's long-term injury list following shoulder surgery last month.
