Carlton big man Matthew Kreuzer is set to spend this weekend on the sidelines – but his troublesome foot isn't to blame.

Kreuzer has pulled up with a sore leg after playing in the VFL at Etihad Stadium last weekend.

Carlton's Head of Football Andrew McKay says given Kreuzer's lengthy absence from senior football, his return is being treated with caution.

"Matthew's other leg was a bit sore after the weekend's game with the Northern Blues, so we've taken the decision to rest him this week as a precaution," McKay said.

"We're really happy with the way his foot has recovered so this is no cause for concern.

"Matthew knows his body better than anyone so if he is feeling 100 per cent next week then he will be considered for senior selection."
