Carlton has welcomed the AFL’s announcement that the Blues will take on St Kilda in an ANZAC Day clash in Wellington next season.

The Saints have played a home game in New Zealand for the past two years, hosting Sydney in 2013 and Brisbane in 2014. Carlton is pleased to be part of this unique match in 2015, which will mark the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.

Carlton CEO Steven Trigg says the Club saw the match as a terrific opportunity.

“ANZAC Day in 2015 will be a historic day for our nation, marking 100 years since our troops made the ultimate sacrifice at Gallipoli,” Trigg said.

“Carlton is very proud to have the opportunity to play in a marquee game on this day, which will no doubt be a very special match for our club and for our supporters.

“We look forward to playing in Wellington in Round 4 next season, having the chance to engage with our supporters across the Tasman, and being actively involved in such a significant day.”

The match will be the first of five AFL games played on ANZAC Day in 2015. It’s scheduled to kick off at 1.10pm New Zealand local time and will be broadcast into Australia on the Fox Footy Channel from 11.10am AEST.
